Wild Zone provides a restoration and biodiversity plan for the Metsä Group's bioproduct mill area in Kemi. The nonprofit will establish over 15 hectares of meadows, dry meadows, and sun-exposed dry meadows on the mill site. Local plant species will be used to create the open habitats. The habitats will be made suitable for local regressing and endangered species. Within the factory area, we will experiment with various methods of strengthening biodiversity. The factory estates will feature, for example, a sun-exposed garden, a chalkstone garden, a grove park, a deadwood garden, a local plant species exhibition area, and a nature playground.
The biodiversity pilot will be expanded to the factory estate yards, the recreational forests and the company forests along the Kemijoki estuary, covering altogether approximately 700 hectares. The biodiversity of the mill area is being developed in cooperation with Metsä Group.
