Flowering lawn in Epilä, Tampere

Wild Zone began its first experiments on flowering lawns in Epilä, Tampere, in 2021. The plants sown on a flowering lawn compensate mowing, meaning that they bloom again after they've been cut. Because of this, flowering lawns don't need to be cut as often as regular lawns. In the new green areas along Nokiantie in Epilä, we sowed Echium vulgare, Lotus corniculatus, Plantago lanceolata, Berteroa incana, Silene vulgaris, and Centaurea scabiosa seeds. The plants sown are primarily local strains, and their original wild location is traceable. These plant species have previously been seen growing on lawns. The experiment is being implemented in cooperation with the City of Tampere.
