In 2019, we began an experiment on a disused playing field in Haavikonpuisto park located in Nekala, Tampere. We wanted to find out if the playing field could develop into a valuable sun-exposed dry meadow habitat. We sowed the following plants which we had experiences of, or hunches about, them surviving on a gravel field: Echium vulgare, Anthyllis vulneraria, Lotus corniculatus, Viscaria vulgaris, Herniaria glabra, Hylotelephium telephium, Verbascum thapsus, Verbascum nigrum, Cota tinctoria, Leucanthemum vulgare, Antennaria dioica, Lathyrus sylvestris, Astragalus alpinus, Silene dioica, Silene vulgaris, Thymus serpyllum, Trifolium arvense, and Trifolium aureum. Since the endangered Anacampsis fuscella moth lives nearby, we also sowed the sole food of its larvae, Trifolium medium. The playing field is very dense as a seedbed, and it seems that the vegetation develops 1 to 2 years slower compared to looser soil.
