Maatialanharju esker meadow, Nokia

Wild Zone established an esker meadow on Maatialanharju esker in Nokia in 2018. In preparation, some pines and deciduous trees were felled in the area. There were a lot of leaves and pine needles on the ground, so we did some screefing before sowing the seeds. Moss was also plentiful, so we added some calcium to the soil. We sowed Verbascum thapsus, Viscaria vulgaris, Lotus corniculatus, Antennaria dioica, and Silene nutans seeds on the meadow. The plants sown are of regional origin, and their wild population origins are traceable. We are managing the esker meadow in cooperation with the City of Nokia.

Screefing, calcifying, sowing, and planting in March 2020. Some deadwood was left on the sun-exposed dry meadow slope when trees were cleared.
Sowing and calcifying the esker meadow in October 2019. There are many rosettes coming up as a result of the sowings the year before.
