Little-leaf linden planting bee at Peltolammi, Tampere

Our members organized a tree-planting bee in Peltolammi, Tampere in 2016 to plant little-leaf lindens. Residents planted lindens where some spruces had been in poor shape and the City had removed them. Planting the little-leaf lindens improved the scenery, strengthened biodiversity, and increased the residents’ engagement in shaping their own local environment.

Louna Viinikka wrote a thesis on the planting bee. The thesis details the organizing of the bee so that replicating the process in similar circumstances would be as easy as possible. Included is a checklist on organizing a bee and the materials needed. A link to the thesis (in Finnish) is:  Metsälehmusten istutustalkoiden järjestäminen ja osallistujien luontosuhteen vahvistaminen

The saplings of the little-leaf lindens were provided by the City of Tampere.
