Wild Zone took part in planning the Multisillanpuisto park as part of Peltolammi-Multisilta suburb program from 2020 to 2022. One of the goals of renovating the playground of the park, as well as managing the forest area, was to increase the amount of deadwood. We asked for ideas from the local residents in the planning phase for increasing deadwood, and its placement. Before the renovations, there were a lot of standing dead spruces which would have normally been removed from the forest. These trunks were left standing in the forest, only cut at the top. In addition, the deadwood was used to make a deadwood maze, suitable for balance games. Some pieces of cut trunks were sunk into the ground to function as seats and jumping platforms. Thus, after the forestry work and park renovations, there was enough deadwood in the area to meet the METSO program class I.
