In 2020, Wild Zone established four small minimeadows around the parking lot of Mustametsä daycare centre in Tampere. The meadows were designed as sun-exposed dry meadow habitats for the critically endangered Anacampsis fuscella moth species as specified by the city plan. In addition, two outbuildings were fitted with sun-exposed dry meadow roofs.
We both sowed and planted zigzag clovers (Trifolium medium), which is the only thing the Anacampsis fuscella moth larvae eat, on the meadows. Besides the zigzag clover, rare sun-exposed ridge plants have also been sown on the meadows. The members of the nonprofit have gathered the seeds locally and documented the original locations.
Wild Zone enclosed the meadows with a temporary fence to discourage trampling of the developing vegetation – in the early phases of an established meadow it's not instantly obvious that the area indeed is an upcoming meadow. We manage the areas by weeding, sowing, and planting.
The sun-exposed dry meadow areas of Mustametsä daycare centre are a cooperation with Tampereen Tilapalvelut Oy.
