Sahavainionpuisto park dry meadow, Tampere

Wild Zone established a wide sun-exposed dry meadow habitat in 2021 in Tampere, in Sahavainionpuisto park in Niemenranta. We sowed the meadow with rare local plant species of wastelands, such as Astragalus alpinus, Hylotelephium telephium, Anthyllis vulneraria ssp. Lapponica, Antennaria dioica, Trifolium arvense, Silene nutans, Viscaria vulgaris, Verbascum thapsus, Echium vulgare, Cynoglossum officinale, Lathyrus sylvestris, Hypericum perforatum, Campanula glomerata, and Torilis japonica. We also planted liquorice milkvetch seedlings (Astragalus glycyphyllos) there. The only known natural populations of the liquorice milkvetch in Tampere are nearby the established meadow. The plants sown are of regional origin, and their wild population origins are traceable. we are implementing the sun-exposed dry meadow in cooperation with the City of Tampere and Tampereen Infra Oy.
