Landscaping the Työläjärvi gravel pit in Ylöjärvi

Wild Zone began landscaping the disused gravel pit in Työläjärvi, located in Pinsiönkangas, Ylöjärvi, in 2015. Traditionally, gravel pits have been landscaped by planting trees. At the Työläjärvi gravel pit, we wanted to try growing plant species typical of eskers, sun-exposed slopes, and dry meadows, and such that are also significant for nature's biodiversity. The landscaping of the Työläjärvi gravel pit was implemented in cooperation with Tampereen Infra Oy.

Continuing the landscaping in November 2015

In November 2015, we set up some more planting frames, totalling at eleven. We moved some Verbascum plants in the new frames from the ones we set up during the summer since there were a lot of seedlings as a result of July sowings. We will continue planting seedlings in the frames in spring 2016. The planting frames have worked well in landscaping; there were moped tracks only between the frames. We also sowed plenty more seeds of varied esker and meadow plants.

Implementing the first phase of the landscaping in July 2015

In the first phase, we planted seedlings of esker and meadow plants in four framed areas in the slope of the gravel pit. We used wooden frames and caution tape because the area is popular among moped users. The planting frames will contain the first plant populations of the landscaping process and they will spread their seeds to the entire area. We also sowed plenty of seeds of varied esker and meadow plants to the entire area.
