Pikisaari in Oulu is home to a rare motherwort subspecies, Leonurus cardiaca subsp. villosus. We collected some seeds from regressed populations in 2021 and grew new seedlings. We planted some of them to public green areas in cooperation with the City of Oulu. Some plants we gave to Pikisaari residents to be planted in their yards. The seedlings were distributed to the residents by Vanha Pikisaari ry organization. The goal is to keep the subspecies population in Pikisaari healthy. The conservation status of Leonurus cardiaca subsp. villosus is classified as near threatened.
