Woodhenge – a deadwood installation

Woodhenge-lahopuuteos

Wild Zone designed a deadwood installation on the tram route, by Hervannan valtaväylä main road. Woodhenge was assembled in 2020 out of the trunks of the common linden which were felled to make way for the construction of the tramway. The members of Wild Zone monitor the species developing on the deadwood. While in temporary storage, the dead linden trunks became home to many fruiting bodies of the poplar bracket fungus (Oxyporus populinus). When the trunks were erected for the installation, the poplar bracket fungi died out and were replaced by a large number of Schizophyllum fungi. Woodhenge is implemented as a cooperation between Wild Zone, the City of Tampere, and Raitiotieallianssi.
